USF researchers present findings on reducing mental health stigma at national conference

Kristin Kosyluk, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy; Ciara Spivey, doctoral student in behavioral and community sciences; and Mia Kouveliotes, a Washington University in St. Louis student and 2024 Florida Mental Health Institute Summer Research Institute scholar, delivered two presentations April 22-23 at the annual conference of the NARRTC, formerly the National Association of Rehabilitation Research and Training Centers.

Mia Kouveliotes presents her research (with Kristin Kosyluk) titled "Deconstructing Mental Illness Self-Stigma: Key Stages that Shape Treatment Attitudes, Recovery and Self-Determination" at the NARRTC conference.

Kosyluk, Spivey, and Kouveliotes presented findings from Kosyluk’s National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research‑funded study on reducing internalized stigma among college students with mental illnesses.

The conference brought together people with disabilities, disability scholars, and practitioners to exchange the latest research findings, training approaches, and knowledge translation methods aimed at improving interventions, programs, and systems for people with disabilities.
