A research article co-authored by University of South Florida faculty members has been recognized as one of the top 10% most-viewed papers published in 2023 by Wiley, a publishing company.
Michelle Arnold, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD), Terry Chisolm, PhD, vice provost and professor in CSD, and Victoria Sanchez, AuD, PhD, chief of the Audiology Section, otolaryngology, at USF Health and courtesy assistant professor in CSD, co-authored the paper, "Hearing Loss and Cognition: A Protocol for Ensuring Speech Understanding Before Neurocognitive Assessment." The research introduces a standardized method to confirm speech comprehension prior to conducting neurocognitive assessments, a critical step in improving diagnostic accuracy for individuals with hearing loss.
The article, published in Alzheimer's & Dementia, has drawn widespread attention across the scientific and medical communities, reflecting the growing recognition of how sensory impairments like hearing loss can influence cognitive health evaluations.
